Ericsson joins Bridge Mobile Alliance as global technology partner

Ericsson has joined Bridge Mobile Alliance as a global technology partner under the Alliance's new Associate Membership scheme, reinforcing its commitment to Asia Pacific region.

The new scheme aims to promote knowledge exchange and joint collaboration across the mobile service development value chain, as well as to develop customized solutions for the Asia Pacific mobile markets.

Bert Nordberg, Ericsson’s Executive Vice President for Group Function Sales and Marketing says, “the partnership with Bridge Mobile Alliance is in line with Ericsson’s commitment to support operators to deliver innovative mobile services to the consumers”.

Ericsson strongly believes that this partnership with the member operators provides opportunities for mutual learning and joint collaboration allowing them to introduce new mobile technologies and applications, which are specifically catered for the Asia Pacific market.

Lim Chuan Poh, Bridge Mobile Alliance’s Chairman, said that mobile operators are faced with the difficulty of making investment decisions for new service offerings as yet another technology or standards emerges.

“To overcome these challenges, technology players and operators must collaborate more closely to redefine the service creation and delivery landscape, starting as early as research and development. Bridge Mobile Alliance will leverage the collective R&D expertise and resources of the partners to create solutions that are relevant for Asian operators,” he explained.

Bridge Mobile Alliance was launched in 2004 and the founding members are mobile operators: Airtel (India), CSL (Hong Kong), Globe Telecom (Philippines), Maxis (Malaysia), SingTel Mobile (Singapore), SingTel Optus (Australia), Taiwan Mobile (Taiwan) and Telkomsel (Indonesia). Other technology players who have signed up with the Alliance as associate members are Motorola and ZTE, which brings the alliance membership base from eight to 11 members.

“We are very pleased to have Ericsson, Motorola and ZTE joining Bridge Mobile Alliance as the pioneering technology partner members to the alliance. All three companies are global leaders in their respective fields; this augurs well into our strategy of attracting the best of breed members to our alliance,” added Bridge Mobile’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Patrick Sim.

Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet communications through its continuous technology leadership. Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the world.
