Celebrating International Women’s Day

Ericsson is celebrating International Women’s Day globally for the first time this year, with activities around the world throughout the first half of March.

"At Ericsson we have a wide definition of diversity – it is definitely not limited to gender – but celebrating International Women’s Day is important in order to inspire change and confirm that Ericsson supports the advancement of women everywhere," says Maria Angelica Perez, Head of Diversity and Inclusion at Ericsson Human Resources.

"Research shows that teams with gender balance tend to be more creative, more productive and more willing to share knowledge, so it is important and natural for us as a group to promote it."

The recently formed Diversity and Inclusion Council, responsible for the global diversity strategy and agenda, reflects the Ericsson world, with members representing different units, professions and ages. The global gender target for 2020 states that one-third of all employees should be women, and that this should also be reflected in the leadership levels.

It is a challenging target considering the ICT industry’s traditional male domination, so Ericsson is addressing gender diversity in a variety of ways.

"The activities that are part of our global celebration of International Women’s Day reflect a lot of the work we are carrying out," Perez says.

“In Latin America, we are inviting girls aged 8-18 to learn more about Ericsson and the ICT industry, and will hopefully encourage them to pursue technical careers.

"At headquarters in Kista, Sweden, the four women in the Executive Leadership Team are sharing their experiences, thoughts, ideas and advice with employees, while in North East Asia, there will be seminars for staff on work-life balance. We hope our people can take part in these and the many other activities all around the Ericsson world."
