Ericsson has released an Interim Traffic and Market report. The Interim Report published August 2012 is a scheduled update to some sections of the Ericsson Traffic and Market Report, that was released in June 2012.
According to Ericsson’s second Traffic and Market Report, 85 percent of the world’s population will have internet coverage via 3G by 2017 – and there will be close to 9 billion mobile subscriptions, compared to 6 billion at the end of 2011. This growth can be attributed to people’s increasing demand for anywhere, anytime connectivity and the use of video, cloud-based services and the internet. Machine-to-machine subscriptions will also contribute to this figure.
If further evidence were needed of the development of mobile broadband, it is provided in the first interim update for Ericsson’s Traffic and Market Data Report, with data in the monitored networks rising by 18 percent during a single three-month period in 2011. Some 60 percent of the world’s population also now has a mobile subscription.
