Ericsson IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem)
Enhanced Multimedia Experience

Users today welcome communication services that help them express their emotions and have fun, but also fulfill their practical needs - all in a style of communication they are used to.
New IMS-based multimedia services have a key role to play in meeting users' expectations of more personal communication that brings them closer together, by making interaction as close as possible to a face-to-face experience.

Ericsson's IMS-based services enable communication through various media, such as voice, text, pictures and video, or a combination of them. Adapted to each individual's preference IMS enables a consistent experience across multiple access technologies, user devices and geographic locations for business or private use. It also allows users to better indicate their accessibility - or their 'presence' - so they can control how, where, when and by whom they can be reached.

Ericsson IMS Solution is a complete end-to-end offering for fixed and mobile operators, ranging from user devices to service creation and delivery. The solution provides standardized services such as IMS Push to Talk, IMS weShare and IMS Multimedia Telephony as well as supporting operator-specific innovations and existing investments.

Innovations are possible through Ericsson Mobility World, a worldwide organization running developer programs and the IMS Studio - a solution including a service-creation environment and a wide range of consulting, integration and support services.

The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) standard defines a generic architecture for offering Voice over IP (VoIP) and multimedia services. It is an internationally recognized standard, specified by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP/3GPP2) and embraced by other standards bodies including ETSI/TISPAN. The standard supports multiple access types including GSM, WCDMA, CDMA2000, wireline broadband access and WLAN.
Benefits
End-to-end
Ericsson already delivers IMS end-to-end - from the core, including the Call Session Control Function (CSCF) and Home Subscriber Server (HSS), to the application server. Ericsson Mobile Platforms includes IMS Client architecture in its platform releases, which are licensed openly to the industry. This makes the Ericsson IMS offering a true end-to-end offering right through to the user.

Range of applications
Person-to-Person standardized services include IMS weShare and IMS Push to Talk, for mobile users. Ericsson systems are also being used to run IP Centrex and IP Telephony services for fixed broadband users. Innovative new services based on IMS standards are being created with the Ericsson IMS Studio.

A convergent offering
IMS is an internationally recognized standard that Ericsson proactively drives in 3GPP, ETSI/TISPAN and the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA). This ensures that IMS functions in both fixed and mobile environments, and will over time make true convergence a reality on both an application and network level. Ericsson is today delivering a solution that can accommodate both fixed and mobile implementations.

Market Leadership
Through Ericsson's extensive IMS experience from commercial and trial implementations, we maintain telecom-grade delivery of real-time packet-based multimedia services. Global operators serving both fixed and mobile users are using Ericsson's IMS offering in a commercial setting.
