Ericsson's Marconi Optical MultiService product family provides network operators with cost effective, scalable and flexible solutions to meet the needs of their networks today and into the future. Ericsson's Optical portfolio is broad: covering TDM, WDM and Ethernet transport, complemented by a common network management system. It is a key enabler to the explosion of new broadband services, and the adaptation to Full Service Broadband applications. Constantly updated, the family embraces the latest developments in transport networks, such as the evolution to Carrier Ethernet in the Metro area to meet the demands of this rapidly changing, packet-based broadband service environment. Built upon key characteristics innovation and flexibility in the areas of Ethernet and TDM transport, aggregation and switching, high capacity DWDM, OTN and fast ASTN restoration, Ericsson's Optical family can deliver a solution for every application.
The Portfolio addresses the different key market segments:
Marconi OMS 800, Optical MultiService CLE/ Access-Edge
Pizza-box STM-1 to STM-16 delivery of Ethernet and TDM. Targeted at Customer located (CLE) and Access-Edge applications such as network edge, campus, or multi-tenanted buildings.
Marconi OMS 1200, Optical MultiService Metro-Edge
An ultra-compact STM-1/4/16 hubbing solution for the aggregation and switching of Ethernet and TDM services, in a common equipment, for use in metro-edge applications, such as radio access, residential or business service aggregation.
Marconi OMS 1400,
Optical MultiService Metro-Edge
The newest member of the family, the OMS 1400 is the latest generation of Packet Transport. At home in numerous applications in the Metro-edge (such mobile, residential and business, often on the customer premises) this high-density, modular 2U high product offers a wide variety of Ethernet and TDM interfaces and up to 80Gbit/s Ethernet switching.
Marconi OMS 1600, Optical MultiService Metro
A high-capacity STM-16/STM-64 MSPP family offering a flexible mix of high density TDM and Ethernet ports, it is ideally suited for applications ranging from metro-edge service aggregation (with dual TDM/Data bus) to ring-closure in the metro-core.
Marconi OMS 2400, Ethernet Transport
Based on a scalable packet switch core, the OMS 2400 Packet Transport family covers a wide range of applications from the CLE to the metro-core. As well as packet aggregation and service grooming, the OMS 2400's flexibility is underlined by the inclusion of both native Ethernet and TDM/WDM network interfaces.
Marconi OMS 3200, Optical Multi Service Core Switch
A high-capacity (up to 960Gbit/s) family of multi-service OCS flexibility nodes, the OMS 3200 includes both higher and lower order VC, ODU and packet switching options, together with ASTN and OTN/WDM interfaces for maximum network and service flexibility.
Marconi MHL 3000, MultiHaul WDM
The MHL 3000 is a cost-optimized Multi-Reach WDM platform for data, TDM and wavelength services in metro, core and ultra-long haul applications from 2.5Gbit/s to 40Gbit/s per channel.
ServiceOn Optical
A common network management platform for the entire OMS portfolio.
Ericsson's Optical MultiService portfolio addresses the major market trends:
-
Migration to IP/Ethernet
Whilst this has brought some fundamental re-thinking to the economics of both service delivery and content, optical transport will continue to provide a key role as an effective solution for carrying mixed services with at least five 9's availability. Ericsson continues to develop innovative solutions across the whole spectrum of legacy and new packet based services.
-
Rapid bandwidth growth
New developments in data services, such as triple play residential (particularly video and IPTV) and high-speed Ethernet VPN/VPL business services are driving bandwidth growth. Aggregation and grooming functions are moving closer to the edge of the network; with Ericsson's products able to respond flexibly as the demands placed upon them grow and change over time.
-
Fixed to mobile Convergence
An efficient and flexible optical network is proving important to mobile operators deploying their own networks, and equally for fixed operators with the backhaul of their new FMC services.
-
Cost savings in the network core
Technologies such as ASTN and OTN (which reduce cost by automation, resiliency and service transparency) are features used throughout Ericsson's leading core optical networking products such as the OMS 3200 and the MHL 3000.
