Ericsson Multiscreen Middleware is the key component of the Ericsson Multiscreen TV solution and provides the middleware function for an interactive and personalized TV experience.

The Middleware enables ease of integration with external systems in customer specific multi-screen TV solutions (provisioning, charging, CA/DRM and O&M). It has an open API to integrate multiple devices (like PC, STB, Mobile, TV, etc.) for delivery of linear and on-demand content. The Middleware is pre-integrated with industry-leading Ericsson OpenStream® VOD backoffice solution. Multiscreen Middleware has well defined, open APIs that enable third-party application developers to deploy interactive services for various end-user clients, e.g. PC, STB, Mobile, Connected TV and tablets.

Business Benefits

Up-sell Opportunities
The Ericsson Multiscreen Middleware product family is for service providers that want to offer new attractive TV services, and want to differentiate from their competition. The Middleware provides key functions for delivery of interactive TV applications. Functionality as VOD download, Channel Selfcare and Auto Complete Search will enable the consumers to make it easy to spend and thus create up-selling opportunities for the service provider.

Future Proof
Ericsson Multiscreen Middleware is based on open standards and is a flexible platform with Telecom grade scalability. It has a Thin-client approach which supports legacy STBs as well as new devices. The open standards and scalability will enable service providers to grow in the future and protect their investment. The Middleware supports management of the broadcast channel identifiers to enable a hybrid STB to receive streams delivered over a broadcast network, as well as the IPTV services provided. This will allow service providers to enter new business models expanding service footprint and subscriber reach. The consumer will only see one integrated program guide and can select channels in the same way, independent of source (IPTV or Terrestrial/Cable/Satellite).

Open and Flexible
Ericsson Multiscreen Middleware provides key functions for delivery of interactive TV applications. The Multiscreen Middleware allows, through open interfaces and SDKs, the operator to offer flexible TV service packages that include personalized service functions such as Broadcast Reminders, as well as interactive TV services such as Time-Shift TV and extensive PVR functionalities. These TV services can be provided to consumers on broadcast networks as well as IPTV networks.

Why Ericsson

In addition, Ericsson recognizes that the path to a successful multi-screen delivery infrastructure is complex and ever-evolving.  A "one-size-fits-all" or "plug-and-play" approach does not work given the unique histories, capabilities, and consumer needs of each TV service provider.  Each customer's situation requires a tailor-made soution with the right selection of components and services that is right for their business.  Ericsson is not only a vendor with 20 years of delivering award-winning products but a strategic partner, with 2000+ video service professionals worldwide, who can help with multi-screen solutions planning, implementation, management and support.

Multiscreen Middleware is available to purchase as a standalone product or as part of Ericsson Multiscreen TV Solution.
