Plenary Session I
Monday, September 10th, 10:00 a.m - 12:00 p.m
"Qualification and Verification Considerations for Power Supplies Containing Digital Technologies"
Pär Ingvarsson

Designers of power supplies are facing an infinite number of configurations to consider during qualification and verification. This might result in an atmosphere of uncertainty, leading to questions about affects on process control, verification and qualification of digital power supplies. This paper will address these questions from the perspective of a manufacturer of BMPS products with the objective to increase the level of awareness among both OEMs and vendors of digital control ICs.

Practical Benefits of PMBus and Digital Control I
Tuesday, September 10th, 3:00 p.m - 5:00 p.m
"Intelligent Energy Management for Improved Efficiency"
Per-Johan Wiberg and Torbjörn Holmberg

This new case-study raises the bar to consider a power system and also extend the scope to include digital power management. The study uses an Intermediate Bus Architecture, comprised of a 48V DC/DC converter plus multiple POL regulators. All of them based on digital control solutions and equipped with interfaces that allow for configuration and monitoring via PMBus. It is demonstrated how these capabilities can enable intelligent energy management resulting in improved efficiency.

"Implications of Digital Control and Management for a High Performance Isolated DC-DC Converter - a Case Study"
Mikael Appelberg

The implementation of digital control substantially reduces the space required compared to an identical analogue control solution. This is illustrated by the implementation of a digital controller in an existing intermediate bus converter design. The result is a product with the same power density as an intermediate bus converter, all the functionality of a fully regulated converter and configurability of a digital design.
