HOW LOCATION WORKS

By sending a request to Ericsson Internet Payment eXchange Location’s operator-independent Application Programming Interface (API), you can locate mobile subscribers who have consented to being located according to local opt-in regulations. Ericsson IPX also protects consumers from potential fraud or abuse of location services.

IPX utilizes the mobile operators’ positioning systems to execute the location requests, which apply to all phones that are switched on and receiving network coverage. By acting as a broker, Ericsson IPX provides the location data from mobile operators with whom we have strong relationships, negotiated agreements and integrated connections.

Location information is provided as geographic coordinates, latitude and longitude, and accuracy is indicated in meters. Ericsson IPX can achieve accuracy of 50 to 100 meters in urban areas. Accuracy may be less exact in rural areas depending on topography and network coverage.

Ericsson IPX Location supports both user- and server-generated location services. Typical use-generated services are those in which the mobile subscriber requests information that is related to their location. Server-generated location service could be media portals where content is adapted for local interest.

Friend finder applications, which provide location of a third party, could provide both-user generated and server-generated services. The user of a friend finder application could generate a request regarding the location of a friend, or the application could automatically push location information for listed friends.
