Remote Training Lab
What is the Remote Training Lab?

Technology has already radically changed the way we work, think and learn. It is imperative that we learn faster if we are to keep pace and maintain our skill levels. Remote Training Lab (RTL) facilitates this in a cost effective and timely manner.

Remote Training Lab is one way to offer instructor-led training. In addition, Ericsson offers e-learning, self-study programs and virtual classroom training.

Remote Training Lab is one of Ericsson's contributions to OPEX reduction as the new training method cuts training costs for customers by more than 40%. Instead of sending students to the training site, the site comes to them via remote connected equipment and hardware. Not only do customers save on travel and accommodation, but they keep key personnel on site.

Remote Training Lab is currently available via the intranet at Ericsson sites worldwide and is now released for access over the Internet from customers' sites.

Remote Training Lab delivers high quality training to customers located at a distance from the training equipment. This means that customers can take training at their local office (RTL via Internet access) or their local Ericsson office (RTL via Intranet access) and do not need to travel.

Ericsson's Experiences

Ericsson successfully launched Remote Training Lab in November 2001 for WCDMA / UMTS courses. Subsequently, demand has dramatically increased and the current supported equipment and technologies include GSM, GPRS, AXE, Engine and data communications.

Ericsson has in the past delivered training in England, Japan, Mexico, US and Taiwan using Remote Tranining Lab to access equipment located in other parts of the world such as Ireland and China.

Strengths of the method

Instructors are highly competent in both remote development and delivery techniques. They appreciate the unique challenges this presents. Technical support is provided for all remote deliveries and our support personnel understand the challenges of a distance learning environment.

Basic Requirements

It is easy to use Remote Training Lab as there are two methods for access- Internet and Intranet. For Internet access, access is via a PC with a connection to the Internet from the customer site. For Intranet access, access is via a PC with a connection to the Ericsson Corporate Network at the local Ericsson office. The requirements for delivery at customer sites include:

-Installation of Remote Training Lab client software program
-URL / IP address of RTL Server
-User name and passwords for login
