Music on M-USE

January 29, 2004

If proof were needed that mobile technology is creating new opportunities for the music industry, then M-USE is it. The solution, developed by Ericsson in cooperation with Sony Music, will be on display at the MIDEM conference in Cannes, France, this week.

M-USE offers the latest in mobile music content including artist pictures, ring tones, mobile music clips, artist news and an advanced music recommendation service.

The mobile music service was developed by Ericsson in cooperation with Sony Music. It allows mobile phone users to browse for music information and images; when they have found what they want, they can choose whether to send the content to themselves or to others. Much of the content comes in the form of MMS messages featuring music, animations and information from top-rated Sony Music artists.

Swisscom is already using the solution as part of its Vodafone Live offering. Ericsson hosts the platform for delivery of content to the operator's networks while Sony Music provides the content.

The latest research from Ericsson's Consumer Lab, shows that music, news and sports are the most important content to offer on mobile phones. Mobile music is a rapidly growing market; last year, turnover from mobile ring tones in Sweden alone amounted to USD77 million.

But solutions such as M-USE show that mobile devices can be used for much more than just the latest ring tones - which is why Ericsson is showing M-USE and other music solutions at the MIDEM conference.

MIDEM, arguably the world's leading international music market, has taken place every year for the past 40 years. Some 9000 music professionals are there this week to keep in touch with the latest developments in the industry.
