Lars-Gunnar Johansson, Head of Network & Technology at TeliaSonera, says: "Based on the new, innovative Ethernet DSL Access solution from Ericsson, we will be able to improve our customer offerings."

Ericsson's Karl Thedéen, Key Account Manager for TeliaSonera, says: "It is a pleasure to have been selected as a new partner to TeliaSonera for volume roll-out of their high performance broadband access network.

"In order to meet TeliaSonera's requirements, we are introducing a broad range of product/technology innovations for Gigabit Ethernet that will reinforce the leading position of Ericsson's Ethernet DSL Access solution in the market."

The contract includes delivery of Ericsson's Ethernet DSL Access solution, based on the ADSL2/2+ standard and Gigabit Ethernet technology.

Main advantages
Some of the main advantages with EDA are that it uses ADSL2/2+ from the end user to the local exchange and Gigabit Ethernet from the local exchange to the IP backbone. It enables a maximum capacity of 24 Mbps to the end user and 3 Mbps in the other direction, which is three times higher capacity then offered with existing ATM solutions.

This means that EDA addresses the problem of bottlenecks in the network between the local exchange and the IP backbone by adopting Gigabit Ethernet to deliver improved performance in a cost-efficient way.

Ericsson's Ethernet DSL Access solution makes possible the delivery of bandwidth-demanding broadband services and ensures cost-efficient deployment of broadband. This unique solution will give TeliaSonera a competitive edge and reinforce its market-leading position in the Nordic and Baltic regions.
