Content made easy

Bringing content to mobile users has never been easier. Ericsson's Internet Payment eXchange (IPX) connects the dots from content providers to end users through a pure payment and messaging service.

Content and application providers can reach all mobile subscribers in an IPX-enabled market through a single connection. Consumers buy content or services directly from providers via their mobile phones and the purchase is added to their phone bill. For consumers, IPX is invisible.

Björn Zethraeus, vice president marketing & sales for IPX, says: "IPX gives content providers an easy and cost-efficient way to bill. It generates traffic and sales on operators' networks, and offers more choices for consumers. It's been launched in 15 countries and new markets are being added monthly."

As a global payment and delivery solution for premium and non-premium SMS, MMS and WAP content, IPX supplies the connectivity from content providers to operators. If content providers had to establish separate relationships with each operator and deal with the technical, commercial and administrative issues, they'd lose cost efficiency. With IPX, they access operators' networks and billing services with a single relationship.

The music video channel MTV is using IPX in the Nordic countries to bring greater interaction to mobile users. Running a fast-paced video channel generates enough headaches without having to worry about connectivity and business agreements with operators. By using IPX, MTV can focus on content and Ericsson takes care of the rest.

Janne Hazell, IPX product manager, says: "We are a known company with technical expertise that operators and content providers trust. We're making the mobile internet value-chain efficient."

Globally, IPX hosts connections for more than 150 content providers. Recently one of the world's largest clothing retailers used Ericsson's IPX service to send an SMS coupon to shoppers who responded to a newspaper ad. Respondents showed their SMS coupon at retail outlets and received a discount.

Zethraeus says: "Anyone who makes content can use IPX: ring tone providers, news and sports services, and inquiry services are just some of the current users of IPX. Because IPX facilitates financial transactions and technical issues, content providers can launch their idea in a market at little cost."

Ericsson's IPX service opens the mobile world for content through operators' billing structures. Content providers do not need to worry about the technical or administrative overheads of using the mobile channel. With a single connection to IPX, they have access to a vast delivery network and have an easy, cost efficient and assured way to directly reach consumers.
