Cyber seminars make business sense

Operators can now get to grips with the latest technology and how it can affect their business. Ericsson's online seminars allow operators to pose questions from the comfort of their PCs and get advice from our team of experts.

In today's hectic working environment, finding the time to stay up-to-speed with the latest in telecoms can be difficult. But keeping abreast of the latest technological developments and the resulting business challenges is essential in this fast-changing industry.

That is where Ericsson can help, as Patricia Pólvora Sundborg, online seminar organizer, explains. "We have customers that simply don't have the time to travel extensively and can't always attend sessions in person," she says.

"Ericsson's online seminars are not a replacement for our educational events but they are a great in-between solution for keeping up-to-date with the challenges in the telecoms industry. And customers can attend without the need to travel."

After a successful series in 2005, which attracted more than 1800 participants from 90 operators, the seminar program continues this year, with plans for at least four more themes during 2006. "Previous participants have identified media revenues, improving network performance and security as themes to be addressed, and we intend to focus on these areas next," Pólvora Sundborg says.

Latest developments
The seminars aim to give customers a snapshot of the latest developments in the industry. All you need is internet access and an hour of your time. Sessions are held twice a day to cater for time differences.

The live presentations take place in a "virtual room" with Ericsson moderators and a panel of experts on the chosen subject ready to answer questions.

"Interactivity is what defines our online seminars," Pólvora Sundborg says. "The participants can communicate with the moderator by sending chat messages and also by using voice-over-IP. It allows people to raise questions based on their unique needs."

Participants also have a say in future seminar topics. Rather than Ericsson setting the agenda, the aim is to fulfill the needs and demands of customers. And should you not be able to meet the given time and date, the playback function means you can download the seminar on demand from the Ericsson website.

"We see a great demand for playback," Pólvora Sundborg says. "Those who register but can't attend usually download the seminar and also forward it to their colleagues."

There has been plenty of positive feedback so far, with participants indicating that the online seminars are a useful tool in their day-to-day work. "It gives them a concise overview of a specific theme," Pólvora Sundborg says. "They also get a point of entry to Ericsson expertise and information they need for their business decisions."

A sideline to the seminar series is podcasting - audio recordings available for download to mobile handsets - which adds extra value to online learning.

As Pólvora Sundborg explains: "Sometimes participants request more in-depth information. That's where we can use a podcast to illustrate a related technical dimension in greater detail."
