Poland services deal enables growth

Ericsson's deal with Poland's Netia is the largest wireline managed services contract of its type. It will allow Netia to focus on geographic expansion and lowering operational expenses.

Under an exclusive five-year managed services contract, Ericsson will be responsible for managing Netia's wireline networks and service deliveries to Netia customers. Netia will retain ownership of the network.

For Netia, the benefits include flexibility in developing its telecommunications network. The agreement allows the operator to expand geographically without having to employ more technical staff.

"We have entered this managed services partnership in order to strengthen our focus on the customers," says Paul Kearney, CTO of Netia. "I am convinced the agreement will improve our competitiveness on the market.

"We chose Ericsson because of its global experience in managing complex outsourcing projects and its flexibility in elaborating a cooperation model."

Lars E. Svensson, president of Ericsson Poland, says the deal with Netia is the most important managed services contract Ericsson has signed in Poland. "The contract will enable Netia to lower its operational expenses, and it ensures that Netia customers will receive services of top quality," he says.

The deal makes Ericsson the leading managed services supplier in Poland, and is the largest wireline managed services contract in Ericsson history. Svensson says it further confirms the company's strong telecommunications position in Poland, as well as globally.

He adds that, because Netia has so many different equipment suppliers, it wanted to outsource the operations and maintenance of its network to a reliable player with a good reputation. The deal also covers Netia's NOC (network operations center).

"The agreement will improve Netia's competitiveness on the market because we can offer global experience in managing complex outsourcing projects and flexibility in establishing a cooperation model," Svensson says.

About 300 employees from the Netia Network Department have now been transferred to Ericsson.

Ericsson will also be responsible for operational activities now performed by the Netia Network Operational Department and Network Inventory Department.
