In a move that extends the boundaries of fashion and integrated mobile communication, Sony Ericsson, in conjunction with watch and accessory designer Fossil, has developed a range of watches designed to seamlessly link to most Sony Ericsson Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones.

The watches incorporate caller ID and allow wearers to accept or reject incoming calls and control the phone's MP3 player. They also alert the wearer if the phone has been left at home or they have received a new text message.

Martina Johansson, Sony Ericsson product marketing manager, says the wristwatch is no longer just a timepiece, but has evolved to offer integrated mobile communications.

"These watches make managing communications easier and represent the latest state-of-the-art Bluetooth product from Sony Ericsson," she says.

Bill Geiser, vice president of watch technology for Fossil, says: "Watches are the perfect 'glanceable' display. They are simple to use, fashionable, and well accepted.

"The immediate opportunity is for watches to deliver convenient new services that simplify how people stay connected with one another."

The marriage of style and technology means wearers can incorporate the convenience of Bluetooth technology with an innovative, efficient, and discreet way of managing their mobile phone, without needing to take it out of their pocket.

"The watches' classic, stainless steel designs include analogue and digital displays, and are a convenient, efficient, and stylish way to stay connected without compromising fashion," Johansson says.

The watches are due to hit stores in the next few weeks and will initially be available from telecom retailers.
