Mobile broadband brings improved security

At the rescue services event Räddningsmässan, Ericsson will showcase its technologies for use in national security and public safety operations from August 20 to 23 in Jönköping, Sweden.

The event is arranged by the Swedish public safety branch magazine Samverkan 112, and is expected to spark dialog and knowledge sharing between public safety organizations and their suppliers. The police, rescue services, ambulance, emergency management and government agencies (including defense) from the Nordic and Baltic regions are expected to attend.

Mikael Bäckström, president and head of Market Unit Nordic & Baltics at Ericsson, says this will be a unique opportunity for public safety professionals to see Ericsson’s latest solutions and learn about new ideas for effective communication during emergency situations.

“To handle demanding tasks such as fires, disaster relief, police work and national security, it is essential to have reliable and relevant information,” Bäckström says. “Agencies require communication solutions that meet the requirements of everyday routines as well as complex tasks during a crisis.”

Commercial technologies and mobile broadband address these challenges and provide improved operational capabilities, being easy-to-use communication tools that can enrich and improve information exchange within and between agencies. Without compromising efficiency, time and confidentiality of operations, they present information in a rich multimedia format.

The development of mobile communications brings benefits to users, proving to be the most beneficial way forward, both in terms of functionality and cost control.

Nils-Olov Dahlman, key account manager, Government and Industry, at Ericsson, says “Tapping commercial technologies for public safety use means that end users can get immediate access to existing modern networks with the latest services and applications. Reusing existing commercial infrastructure and public investment, Ericsson can offer the end user wireless broadband data and voice solutions with outstanding cost-effectiveness and deployment time.”

During the event, representatives from the various public safety organizations will attend Ericsson’s presentations, product demonstrations and one-to-one meetings, learning how to improve operational effectiveness.

The 3G solutions that deliver highest-quality voice and image transmissions will be featured. Customized turnkey solutions such as Government Home Network, which re-use existing commercial GSM and, or, WCDMA network infrastructure for strategic communication, and related applications, will also be showcased.

The use of mission-critical communication infrastructure and applications will be demonstrated together with Ericsson’s partners, Generic and BNearIT.

“Ericsson’s solutions are tailored to match customer needs, enable use of public networks, transportable networks and command and control for emergency response – which can make a big difference to public safety,” says Dahlman. “We are uniquely positioned to enable effective information sharing for public safety operations. This event is a great opportunity for customers to see how we can help them with their mobile broadband communications.”
