The contract consists of providing Telcel, Mexico’s largest operator, with Ericsson’s MINI-LINK Traffic Node in different types of technology – in PDH, SDH & Ethernet which fulfill the capacity requirements for pure voice and high-speed IP data transport.
It is a turnkey project where Ericsson will provide full customer, network and field support.
Ericsson’s solution fits perfectly with Telcel’s need to boost the transmission capacity of its current 2G and 3G networks and provide HSPA-based, high-speed mobile broadband by introducing new IP services.
Being a deal with Latin America’s largest wireless company, América Móvil, which owns Telcel, Ericsson will increase its microwave market share in the region.
Ericsson’s key account manager for Telcel and MCA América Móvil, Jorge Aguiar Nunez says: “The deal proves that we have what it takes when it comes to microwave transmission and we have also raised our chances of gaining ground with América Móvil in other market units across Latin America.”
Arik Aizenberg, sales manager for MINI-LINK at Business Unit Networks says: “We were able to win the contract by proving that the MINI-LINK TN can offer greater capacity and more advanced technology with a mix of voice & IP at a competitive price. Providing Telcel with all their current and future IP network requirements won us their confidence.
