





Ericsson was recognized at the annual AfricaCom awards for MTN Zone, powered by its Dynamic Discount Solution, the world’s first telecom yield-management solution.

Ericsson was the only vendor recognized, and the award came in the category “Most Innovative New Service of the Year.”
Sanjay Kaul, Vice President for Multimedia Solutions & Systems Integration at Ericsson sub-Saharan Africa, says the Dynamic Discount Solution is an innovative business solution that has redefined yield management in the telecom industry. “The solution creates a phenomenal win-win situation for all parties: vendor, operator and consumer,” he says.
African and Middle Eastern mobile operator MTN was looking to solve the problem of high call volumes at peak times. In response Ericsson and MTN developed MTN Zone using the Dynamic Discount Solution, which reduces peak traffic volumes by offering consumers a value proposition to make their calls during off-peak hours.
“End users who are willing to make a call during periods when the network is not busy can receive a discount of up to 95 percent, resulting in more evenly distributed call volumes,” Kaul says. “The discount is attractive to many users and can lead to an increase in subscribers for the operator, and therefore in profits.
