Cooperating with universities

Focusing on application development, and especially IMS, Ericsson cooperates with several universities around the world.

Rolf Carlsson, head of operations, Ericsson Developer Program, says that cooperation has many objectives. “It will lead to development of IMS competence for the global and local market which in turn will inspire and boost IMS application development,” he says.

“By introducing technology innovation and practical business cases in an academic environment, we will, together with the students, develop applications for potential new commercial services.

“Universities are a key group to work with for us in the developer program in order to build IMS knowledge and secure that innovative IMS applications are brought to the market.”

Explaining how in practice Ericsson cooperates with universities, Carlsson points to IMS activities such as lectures and seminars on architecture, application development or business ideas. The lectures are held by Ericsson speakers or partners.

“We also arrange contests and developer days and provide tools such as Service Development Studio,” Carlsson says. “This cooperation creates business opportunities for university applications and supports collaborations with operators and the media industry.”
