IITM is one of India’s most respected institutions, providing education and research facilities in engineering and technology. The campus is located in the city of Chennai, previously known as Madras.
Anders Caspár, Director of Software Research at Ericsson, says it is a privilege to cooperate with IITM. “The university has a very good history of research activities,” he says. “Through this partnership, we hope to create a close relationship with IITM, Ericsson’s R&D office in India and our software research unit in Stockholm, Sweden.”
One of the research projects between Ericsson and IITM will look at ways to collect data, construct algorithms and present them in a comprehensive way to make it easier for operators to understand consumer behavior in a mobile network. Hedwig Baars, head of Ericsson R&D in India, says: “We want to help the operators understand the end user by using data from their own networks. This research project will enable them to do that.”
Baars is also hoping that the partnership with IITM will help Ericsson gain recognition in the Indian market, not only for its skills in telecom services, but also for its knowledge within product development.
The partnership agreement was signed on May 12.
