PCG is the 3GPP’s highest level steering and coordination group.
Founded in December, 1998, 3GPP is a collaboration of a number of telecommunications standards bodies such as the Alliance for Telecommunication Industry Solutions (ATIS).
ATIS is 3GPP’s North American organizational partner, and Chatterjee has long served as head of the ATIS delegation to 3GPP.
In a press statement, ATIS congratulated Chatterjee on his year-long chairmanship of 3GPP’s Project Coordination Group (PCG).
“Asok Chatterjee has long demonstrated an understanding and appreciation for standards’ vital role in enabling tomorrow’s technologies,” said Susan Miller, the president and CEO of ATIS. “I congratulate him on his chairmanship and look forward to the PCG’s continued success under Dr. Chatterjee’s direction.”
Chatterjee will oversee 3GPP’s partner coordination activities, making his role instrumental to 3GPP’s liaison with other global standards groups. He succeeds Walter Weigel, the director general of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, as PCG chairman.
