Building profitable radio networks

Whether for today’s leading technologies or those designed for tomorrow, Ericsson’s portfolio of radio access network products delivers a quality user experience while minimizing cost.

Product Description

Ericsson's portfolio of Radio Access Network products enables operators to build highly-profitable radio networks based on the system families GSM/EDGE, WCDMA/HSPA and LTE.These technologies are dominating the industry thanks to their high-quality voice and data services, and economies of scale for building, operating and managing cost-effective networks.

Number one supplier of GSM systems

GSM is the most widely adopted mobile standard in the world. Ericsson is the number one supplier of GSM systems, with about half all GSM calls made anywhere in the world connected through an Ericsson system.

EDGE delivers high data speeds to mobile devices. It allows users to connect to the internet and send and receive data, including digital images, web pages and photographs, much faster than possible with an ordinary GSM/GPRS network.

With EDGE, GSM operators can provide higher speed mobile-data access, serve more customers and free up GSM network capacity to accommodate additional voice traffic.

The leading 3G technology

WCDMA/HSPA, the world's leading 3G technology, is a cost-effective solution for voice traffic and the best technology for delivering the capacity and efficiency needed for mass market mobile broadband services and fast access to corporate LAN.

WCDMA/HSPA is part of Ericsson's Full Service Broadband offering, which generates revenue by providing mobile broadband access with similar performance to most fixed networks.

HSPA is undergoing a strong evolution to even higher speeds, more capacity and lower latency. This evolution, including smart antennas and high-order modulation, will further strengthen the user experience of mobile broadband.

Leading the introduction of LTE

LTE (Long Term Evolution) is the next evolutionary 3GPP technology step. It offers high peak speeds, low latency, high capacity, spectrum flexibility and network simplicity.

Ericsson is leading the introduction of LTE, with the first commercial LTE release from Ericsson expected to be available in 2009.

Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA)

Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) is an industry standard for accessing GSM services (voice and data) over broadband. The services are delivered from the mobile core network over any IP broadband connection and into the mobile phone via unlicensed radio (WiFi). Ericsson’s UMA solution, based on the 3GPP standard Generic Access Network (GAN), is called Mobile@Home
