Adding value – anywhere

Ericsson’s end-to-end offering for Location Based Services (LBSs) provides everything service providers need to capitalize on growing demand for location-enhanced communications.

Solution summary

Location-based services bring information on the location of a user’s mobile device to existing mobile applications, creating a raft of enriched, personalized services to meet user and enterprise demand for increased safety, efficiency and convenience.

Ericsson provides an end-to-end solution for service providers wishing to boost their offerings with location-based services.

It includes:

  • Ericsson's commercially proven Mobile Positioning System (MPS)
  • Content and application middleware
  • A Geographic Information System (GIS)

A range of professional services and access to all available GSM and WCDMA handsets.

Ericsson Location Based Services solution uses standards-compliant infrastructure to secure a smooth migration path to 3G and transparent user applications, and supports the network-based positioning methods CGI/TA, E-CGI, ATI, U-TDOA, and Cell Id, as well as A-GPS (based on the Global Positioning System).

The Ericsson solution supports legal requirements for emergency service information.

Generating new revenues

Adding information about the location of a user’s mobile device to existing mobile services gives service providers greater scope to address user and enterprise demands to save time, improve safety and increase efficiency.

For instance, LBSs are being used widely today by users wanting to find a nearby restaurant or store, or check where a family member is. Likewise, businesses are utilizing LBSs to deploy service personnel more efficiently and improve fleet management.

Service providers can also use location information to better tailor services to the individual user’s situation, providing an enhanced, personalized experience.

This combination of personalized services and increased convenience will help service providers attract new users and retain existing ones.

And with LBS applications already available for any handset, operators can reach mass-market uptake from day one.
