NetOp PM

An integrated policy management system
Successful operators increase market share and profitability by generating new revenue streams.  NetOp Policy Manager (NetOp PM) greatly expands the capabilities in existing operational environments with a wide variety of time-based, time-of-day based and volume-based services.

Key benefits

NetOp PM leverages the Ericsson metro Ethernet and SmartEdge platforms to allow service delivery to millions of subscribers over multiple broadband access technologies, including DSL, cable, Wi-Fi/WiMAX, and Ethernet.  As a result, operators can quickly deploy new revenue generating services, without changing their operational processes and procedures.

Key benefits and characteristics include:
• Value added services: Delivers a range of new services to increase average revenue per subscriber
• Customer self-service: Reduces operating costs by permitting subscribers to self-select the services they desire through a Web portal
• Single subscriber sign-on: Provides subscribers with a single identity across client (PPP) or clientless (DHCP) access methods including support for multiple end devices and multiple network transports
• Flexible Service Provisioning: Utilizes an open service definition model permitting the creation of new value added service using third party application service providers and application vendors
• Cooperative proxy support: Coordinates with existing RADIUS, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) and Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) servers and leverages existing RADIUS infrastructure to provide an integrated mechanism for Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) and service delivery
• Open OSS integration: Extends a standardized SOAP/XML gateway to accept service activation and change requests from Web portals and back office OSSs
• Field-proven scalability: Delivers a redundant architecture featuring clustering, and load balancing that can grow to support millions of subscribers

Flexible and Reliable

In addition to basic broadband authentication for network access based on PPP or DHCP, NetOp PM enables operators to create many different services based on a variety of policy management “building blocks” such as authentication, filtering, multicasting, metering, and queuing.

The range of services include:
• Web-based login
• Wi-Fi and WiMAX access
• Dynamic service selection
• Invalid PPP login redirect
• Dynamic service selection
• Captive portal / redirect services
• Tiered bandwidth
• Bandwidth on demand
• Video on Demand
• URL filtering
• Dynamic traffic prioritization
• Scheduled time of day-based access
• Duration-based access based on total time online
• Volume-based access with download limits

Some of these services also create new billing models, helping to diversify the subscriber base and increase service penetration. For example, operators can charge lower prices for services that are only offered at certain times of the day or only allow a specific amount of content to be downloaded.
