ICT plays vital role

Information and communication technology (ICT) plays an important role in building a sustainable world. However at the Broadband World Forum, many expressed their belief that outside the industry, ICT's importance in sustainability is overlooked.

ICT can play a massive role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions in other sectors where the full potential has not been realized. ICT needs to bring that message to policy makers and other global leaders using successful case studies. What is important is a political consciousness with a commitment to invest in broadband technologies and to help the community understand what it means for each individual. Marc Fossier, Chief Corporate Social Responsibility Officer at Orange, Elaine Weidman-Grünewald, Vice President of Sustainability at Ericsson and Louis Zacharilla, co-founder of the Intelligent Community Forum, shared their views on the topic.
