The number of channels continues to increase, HD is growing and consumers are buying larger and larger TV sets. All these factors are putting pressure on bandwidth. What’s more, plans are now being laid for Ultra High Definition TV. All that means, media organizations need to make the most efficient use of bandwidth and ensure consumers get a quality viewing experience.
In a fast changing, highly competitive market, media organizations need encoding solutions that deliver high quality, high reliability and operational flexibility. The Ericsson AVP 4000 Encoder Family is the answer to the high quality system encoding requirements of IPTV, Cable, Satellite and Broadcast.
AVP 4000 System Encoders
The Ericsson AVP 4000 Encoder Family offers Ericsson’s best ever levels of picture quality in MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC in both SD and HD. Powered by Ericsson’s first ever professional video chip, the AVP 4000 Encoder Family can easily be upgraded between codecs and resolutions via software, removing the need for complex hardware upgrades. Ericsson’s chip technology is not limited to 8 bit operation and customers can choose future upgrades or repurposing to 10 bit, 4:2:2, 1080P and UHDTV operation.
A compact 1RU form factor offers up to six hot swappable option slots, for combinations of encoding and auxiliary modules and an onboard video monitor gives instant operator feedback. Encoder modules are hot swappable, simplifying servicing and dual power supply options protect valuable services.
Part of the multiple award winning Ericsson AVP encoder range, the AVP 4000 incorporates the rich toolset of Ericsson’s existing market leading VPC system encoder, plus the award winning AVP. That means, unlike conventional ‘box per application’ encoder products, customers can benefit from a common toolset, common chassis and common interface with the rest of Ericsson’s award winning AVP products. That allows media organizations to use a common platform for a wide range of encoding needs, without the cost and complexity of a multi-vendor ’mix and match’ approach. AVP 4000 is equally suitable for deployment as a system component, or as part of an Ericsson iSIS 8000 multi platform head end system solution.
AVP 4100 ATSC Integrated System
The AVP 4100 ATSC Integrated System is a focused configuration of AVP, providing a cost effective flexible implementation in support of ATSC Broadcast Operators by combining encoding and statistical multiplexing functionality into a single 1 RU platform. Initial installation is straight forward, requiring no specialist integration knowledge. Subsequent operation is simple, via an ergonomic Web User interface, which is designed for simplicity and ease of use
Industry leading MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC encoding with integrated Reflex statistical multiplexing and PSIP Carouselling.
- Compact 1 RU form factor
- TV monitor gives instant input service status
- Choice of configurations for HD and SD
- Built on the new Ericsson AVP platform, with modular architecture, allowing for equipment re-use, onsite upgrades and servicing.
A new approach to encoding
The Ericsson AVP ‘one platform’ approach represents a modern approach to encoding product design. In a nutshell, the five key benefits of AVP are:
In the media industry, the speed of change is increasing. New requirements and workflows are emerging. That’s why its important not to put unnecessary constraints on products. For example limiting a product to 8 bit operation, or 4:2:0 or a single codec, or a single workflow, may satisfy today’s immediate requirements but maybe not tomorrow’s. With AVP, there are no such restrictions, as 10 bit, 4:2:2, JPEG 2000, 3DTV and 1080P 50/60 are available today with an upgrade path to UHDTV.
