Plesiochronous (almost-synchronous) Digital Hierarchy (PDH) was the first standardized multiplexing hierarchy based on time-division multiplexing and is mainly used for bit rates up to 140Mbps. Large amounts of information can be transmitted over media such as microwave, copper or fiber using PDH technology.
