The WCDMA/HSPA technology is now well established on the global mobile market. Ericsson is Radio Access Network supplier to around 50% of all commercially launched WCDMA/HSPA networks in the world (September 2011).

The WCDMA/HSPA technology has a strong momentum. According to GSA (July 2011), 410 HSPA networks are commercially launched in 162 countries, spread on all continents. Of these, 136 networks also support HSPA Evolution (21Mbps or more).

Ericsson is powering 279 commercial EDGE networks worldwide, (Dec 2010). The EDGE technology – Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution – is complementary to HSPA/LTE in delivering Mobile Broadband services. EDGE has become a natural evolution of GSM/GPRS and the majority of WCDMA-HSPA networks also support EDGE for service continuity and the best user experience. According to GSA, there where 531 operators in 196 countries offering GSM/EDGE services, as per Aug 2010.
