Douglas C. Smith

President and CEO, Ericsson Federal Inc.

 

Doug Smith is CEO and President of Ericsson Federal Inc. an independent Ericsson company. Ericsson is the global leader shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet communications through its technology and services leadership. Ericsson provides innovative solutions in more than 160 countries for most of the largest communication companies in the world.

 

Smith has extensive experience in business leadership, establishment, growth and operations. He has had leadership roles within Ericsson, Nortel and in two successful start up businesses since 1997. The first success was an independent venture capital funded company and the second success is the business he is currently running within Ericsson. Smith participates in corporate Boards, Industry Advisory groups and Government councils.

 

From 2004 to the present Smith served as the leader responsible for establishing Ericsson as an emerging force in U.S. Government communications. Ericsson Government serves the Satellite, DOD, Intel, Civilian Federal, State and Local markets with a broad range of broadband communications solutions. Ericsson Federal Inc. is established as a foreign owned business able to serve both unclassified and classified customers with leading edge communications technology and services. Smith has led the strategy and growth of this business from inception, driving more than $750M in revenue to date. Strong earnings have enabled one successful acquisition and investment in growth strategies.

 

Prior to his current role Smith led Ericsson North America's business development activities. Key activities included formation of the team, identification of key markets, potential customers, investments and risk analysis.

 

Previous to Ericsson Smith was President and General Manager for Broadband Networks Inc. BNI was a venture capital start up focused on the fixed Broadband Wireless market. In 1998 he established BNI as the leader in this space leading to the company's acquisition by Nortel Networks. Prior to 1997 Smith held various Sales, Marketing and Engineering roles in Ericsson Inc.

 

Smith's education is in fields which remain a strong interest today. International Economics (MBA) with marketing and economics emphasis underlie his continuing interest in business, economics, politics and international trade. His undergraduate degree is in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis and continuing interest in physics and the sciences. These strong interests underlie his passion for the way technology is used to transform businesses and our economy today.

 

 

 

Robert Dunn

Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing

 

Bob Dunn is Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing at Ericsson Federal Inc. (EFI). Bob joined EFI in October 2008 and directs all sales and marketing efforts across U.S. federal, state and local government agencies that are demanding the same broadband applications and communications capabilities as commercial markets. His team helps customers leverage Ericsson's worldwide commercial leadership and massive research and development investment to achieve mission success.

 

Prior to Ericsson, Bob served as the Senior Vice President Sales / Marketing at PacStar Communications. While at PacStar, Bob served as an Officer of the company and maintained a client roster that included numerous influential U.S. government agencies including the Department of Defense, Defense Information Systems Agency, Department of Homeland Security and the Director of National Intelligence. Bob also served as President, Product Solutions Sector, Nortel Government Solutions (NGS) and played an active role in the merger between Nortel and PEC Solutions as well as the consolidation of the business units. Mr. Dunn also held numerous business development and management roles for NYNEX, Northern Telecom and Bell Atlantic.

 

Bob graduated from Boston College School of Management with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Bob is a member of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA).

 

 

 

Kathleen Frederick

Director, Human Resources

 

Kathleen Frederick is Director, Human Resources for Ericsson Federal Inc. In this position, Kathleen leads the Human Resources function which includes management of recruiting & staffing, individual and organization development, performance management, and employee rewards and recognition. Prior to joining Ericsson, Kathleen served as Director of Human Resources for Serco North America, a UK based defense contractor with over 11,000 employees serving the DoD and Intelligence Communities. She has also held leadership positions within other defense contractors such as Intelligence Data Systems (IDS - now L3 Communications), Titan Corporation and BTG Inc. While at IDS, Kathleen led the development of HR and Organization Development, significantly contributing to IDS's 2004 attainment of the #4 position on Washington Technology's "Fast 50" and #88 on Fortune 100's list of top growth companies. In 2005, Kathleen played an integral role in the acquisition of IDS by Titan Corporation.

 

Kathleen holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from George Mason University and a Master of Science Degree in Human Resource Management from American University.

 

 

 

Jeff Lucak

Vice President, Project Management 

 

Jeff Lucak, Vice President - Project Management for Ericsson Federal, is responsible for all aspects of contract fulfillment including project planning and execution through final customer acceptance.

 

Prior to joining the Ericsson Federal team, Lucak led the Mobile User Objective System program which delivered W-CDMA software development environment, consulting services and UMTS network elements to support the development of next generation military satellite communication systems.  In addition, Lucak served as Program Manager for Ericsson's Sprint IMS project that became the first commercial deployment of Ericsson's IMS products and services.

 

Lucak joined Ericsson in 1986 and has served in a variety of management positions, including leading the development of datacom and telecom systems and solutions.

 

Lucak earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Illinois.

 

 

Randy A. Russell

Vice President, Services and Solutions

 

Randy Russell, Vice President of Services and Solutions for Ericsson Federal, is responsible for developing viable service offerings to take to the Government market and is also responsible for defining telecommunications solutions for Federal customers.

 

Randy joined Ericsson in 2004 as Director of Business Operations, Enterprise Mobility Solutions, focusing on the delivery of voice and data products and services to the Enterprise. In 2005, he assumed the role of Director, Government Solutions Services Sales and worked to grow the Services and Solutions business. In 2007, Randy was promoted to Vice President of Government Services Sales for Ericsson. Prior to joining Ericsson, he led the Southern Region Professional Services practice for AT&T Solutions, providing strategic direction for the region and orchestrating unique business solutions to satisfy customer requirements.

 

Randy holds a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Angelo State University.

 

 

David Thompson

Chief Financial Officer, Government Business

 

David Thompson, CFO for Government Business at Ericsson Federal, is responsible for all aspects of finance and accounting as well as developing new and strategic opportunities in Government segments and expanding Ericsson's North-American products and customer base.

 

David joined Ericsson in 1996 and, prior to joining the Government team, he served as Controller/CFO for Ericsson's account with AT&T where he managed all financial aspects of the relationship. Before joining Ericsson, Thompson spent nine years at a start up Mitsubishi Company as CFO, where he eventually became President. Prior to the Mitsubishi start up, he spent eight years with Texas Instruments.

 

David received a Bachelor of Business Administration in both Finance and Accounting from Texas Tech University and is a Certified Public Account.

 

 

Karen Zucker

Senior Legal Counsel

 

As Senior Legal Counsel Karen manages all legal affairs of Ericsson Federal, including providing advice to the business team on teaming agreements, subcontracts and strategic alliances, and review and negotiation of customer, subcontractor and reseller contracts to ensure compliance with federal requirements and corporate strategy.

 

Prior to joining EFI Karen was Senior Corporate Counsel with BEA Systems, Inc., PeopleSoft and SAP.

 

Karen received her J.D. from Wayne State University School of Law and her B.A. from Michigan State University.
