Ericsson Broadband Stimulus Solutions
Ericsson Last Mile Solutions

The Full Service Broadband portfolio includes fixed-access nodes, which support a wide range of access technologies, including DSL, point-to-point Ethernet over fiber and Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON). Additionally, mobile-access nodes based on WCDMA/HSPA/LTE enable unicast and Multimedia Broadcast Multimedia Service (MBMS) multicast capabilities.

RAN – Radio Access Network Solutions

Ericsson’s 3GPP-based RAN is designed to minimize operators’ expenditures, and it is characterized by a superior radio performance, a comprehensive Radio Base Station (RBS) portfolio, excellence in service performance and a scalable architecture providing a future-proof platform that facilitates a smooth evolution path to Mobile Broadband and other functionality. The proposed HSPA Radio Access Network is based on 3GPP Release 7 standard.

Ericsson's superior radio performance is exemplified by providing the most output power available for traffic of all vendors and the best receiver sensitivity. This is the result of unique RBS features, which also provides highly stable output power over time and temperature without field calibrations. The higher traffic output power and excellent receiver sensitivity directly corresponds to fewer sites required for a given coverage or capacity.

Ericsson offers up to 30% better coverage than traditional RBSs and the importance of output power has increased with the introduction of HSPA. Our RAN solutions are scalable and meet open standards enabling connectivity to major carriers networks for data roaming. And Ericsson's RAN solutions enable quick deployment while meeting the requirements of the grant.

GPON – Gigabit Passive Optical Network

GPON enables lower Operational Expense:

  • Major carrier reported up to 80% lower OpEx costs
  • Passive
    • No electronics in the outside plant
    • No failures, no maintenance, no battery replacements
  • Fiber in the outside plant
    • No maintenance (copper requires maintenance)
    • Future proof
  • Many users on same PON/ Fiber
    • Lower Capital Expense

GPON enabling benefits

  • 2.5Gbps/ 1.2Gbps downstream/ upstream speeds
    • Allows 200+ Mbps service offering
  • Ethernet over GPON Encapsulation Method (GEM)
  • True IP fiber based access network, today
  • IP convergence
  • 128-BIT Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)
    • AES encryption ensure secure downstream data
  • Robust ONT Management and Control Interface (OMCI)
    • OMCI enables mass service turn-up and maintenance
  • Robust enforced G.984. x standards
    • Interoperability for volume deployment resulting in lower costs

Ericsson's GPON solution is a great fit for rural broadband, meeting the requirements of the grant.
