UX and big data at the 2013 Mobile World Congress
As some of you might know, the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is less than a week away (February 25–28). This year, Ericsson is presenting a selection of projects from Ericsson Research with the ambition to illustrate our activities within some of the areas that we are focusing on. As it happens, the project Exploring Big Data, which we at the UX Lab have driven together with the Data research group during 2012, has been selected to be presented at the congress (horray!)
The Exploring Big Data project (a separate blog post about the project will be posted after the congress) is a really great example of how UX can play a vital role in a very high tech oriented research environment – not by merely making the technology understandable, but also in taking the concept further by constantly infusing the development and research processes with a design thinking approach. At the Mobile World Congress we will present an interactive demo that shows how big data can be made meaningful by performing proper analysis on it, by visualizing it in various ways, and by making it possible to interact with it. Furthermore we are also illustrating how different kinds of value can be extracted from the insights that we get from all of this. It is worth pointing out that our ambition is not to try to deliver a blueprint of how to turn data into money, but to propose ideas and thoughts that we can use as starting points for various discussions around big data.
I will be in Barcelona between February 22–28 and if anyone wants to have a look at the project and/or merely want to have a chat, feel free to get in touch over email (cristian.norlin@ericsson.com) or Twitter (@cristiannorlin).
