SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation
SDG 6: "Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all". As the fastest and largest global technology uptake in history, mobile broadband has the potential to positively impact all of the 17 SDGs. While there are considerable challenges to be tackled in achieving this ambitious agenda, the examples of our products, services and solutions demonstrate the role ICT can play in accelerating the achievement of the Global Goals.
ICT's role in reaching this goal
Smart solutions can contribute significantly to a sustainable future by for example reducing water in the production of food and other commodities. ICT infrastructure is enabling access to water, can also help with solutions for digitally monitor rainfall and the status of drinking water. Broadband penetration can positively impact societies and enable access to sustainable agriculture and improved well-being and livelihood.
ICT solutions making an impact
Ericsson Weather Data (EWD)
In partnership with the Swedish weather agency, we developed a solution for monitoring rainfall using microwave networks that provide accurate, high-resolution rainfall measurement. It has launched as a commercial solution, and the development of proof of concepts for other usages, such as fog and snow, is in the planning as well.
Connected water, clean water
In cooperation with the City of Stockholm, Telia Company, Royal Institute of Technology, and other partners, Ericsson is working on Connected Water Monitoring—real-time smart water solutions, to digitally monitor the status of the drinking water of —cities from the source, through the distribution system and back to the source through the stormwater system.
