Doctor, Explorer & Environmentalist

Jean-Louis was the first man to reach the North Pole alone and is a tireless defender of the planet. His next expedition is on the Polar Pod, set to sail the notoriously challenging Southern Ocean.

Made famous by his incredible achievement as the first man to reach the North Pole solo overland, Jean-Louis is a renowned doctor, explorer, and environmentalist. Due to set sail in the notoriously challenging Southern Ocean, his most recent project, the Polar Pod, is a floating laboratory designed to study the world's biggest carbon sink – which absorbs 12% of the CO2 generated by humans each year.

“Driven by westerly winds, the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) unites the Indian, Pacific, and Atlantic oceans. This ocean is still little known and oceanographic campaigns are rare. The international scientific community needs to take on-site measurements because this current is a major player in the climate and a reserve for marine biodiversity. This is what the Polar POD project will enable. With regard to environmental issues, there are two main areas: the solution is both behavioral and technological".
