Help us fight hunger with the ShareTheMeal app

Many people don’t realize it, but hunger and malnutrition are the #1 risk to human health worldwide — greater than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined. The good news, though, is that hunger is entirely solvable if we work together. As supporters of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we at Ericsson are firmly committed to doing our part to help achieve the vision of a world without hunger by 2030.

ShareTheMeal offers a great opportunity for all of us to work together and fight world hunger. With a donation of as little as 50 cents (US), the app allows you to share a meal with a hungry child. At Ericsson, we believe a world without hunger is possible by 2030, and as part of the Share The Meal campaign, our employees have already donated more than 30,000 meals since July. Join us in feeding hungry children around the globe – download the ShareTheMeal app now!

What is ShareTheMeal?

SDG #2 – Zero Hunger is the top priority of the United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP), the leading humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. Each year, WFP reaches 80 million people with food assistance in approximately 80 countries. One of the tools the WFP has developed to help engage individuals and organizations in the fight to end hunger is the ShareTheMeal app. The operating costs are funded by an innovations grant of the WFP, together with donations from businesses and philanthropists, which means that virtually all the money donated via the app is used to purchase and deliver food to hungry children.

Engaging Ericsson’s employees

I first downloaded the ShareTheMeal app in 2015 and have been an advocate of its innovative design and functionality ever since. The app’s reputation has grown steadily since its launch, and it got a significant boost earlier this year when it was recognized as the best mobile contribution to the UN SDGs at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

I was delighted when Ericsson decided to run a global ShareTheMeal campaign targeted at our employees this summer (July 3 to August 31). The response has been fantastic – our staff have generously donated more than 30,000 meals so far. This success has inspired us to spread the word about ShareTheMeal to our customers, partners, suppliers and others in our network as well, so that they too can download the app and join us in feeding hungry children around the globe. If everyone shares a meal we can make a huge difference!

How you can help

From September 1st to October 31st, you can donate one or more meals, at a cost of just USD 0.50 per meal. By simply downloading the ShareTheMeal app and sharing a meal you can help to feed hungry children and prove the power of using technology for the good of humanity.

This is how you can ShareTheMeal

Download the WFP’s ShareTheMeal app in the Apple App Store (for iPhones) or the Google Play Store (for Android phones). Once you have downloaded it, search for #TeamEricsson using the ‘Community’ function and join the Ericsson team. Now you are ready to make your donation and ShareTheMeal!
