Ericsson and UKE 5G training collaboration
Ericsson 5G learning portfolio 2018 from Ericsson In February 2018, UKE, the Office of Electronic Communications, which is the Polish Telecommunications regulator, together with Ericsson Learning Services formed a cooperation as UKE begins their journey to 5G. The aim of this cooperation is to develop and enhance essential 5G competence within UKE, as they prepare for the potential scenarios that will arise during 5G integration.
Competence gap analysis and job profile analysis: an essential first step
The cooperation includes a competence gap analysis and a job profile analysis held during joint workshop sessions. These analysis activities assess the current competence baseline of the different technologies required for 5G. A customized 5G training plan is the output. The training plan is delivered using a blended approach.
The blended approach includes different delivery methods. For example, the 5G courses can be:
- Instructor-led classes
- Digital learning such as video sessions and web-based learning (WBL)
As Marcin Cichy, President of the Office of Electronic Communications at UKE, states: “The UKE and Ericsson project is more than knowledge and experience sharing. It’s a great opportunity to meet business expectations in terms of deployment of new technologies. The joint workshops will help us launch 5G in Poland even more effectively, for the benefit of all consumers. It’s a chance to start big things with small steps.”
Collaboration across Poland's ecosystem
A key step in planning for UKE's 5G competence uplift is to identify and understand regulatory changes that will require collaboration between state institutions, universities, enterprises, and startups. When it comes to bringing 5G to Poland, these will play a significant role and have an impact on expanding the country's economic development potential.
The collaboration between Ericsson and UKE enables the creation of a successful ecosystem between all of these parties.
Once the 5G training plan is secured and the right ecosystem is put in place, training is expected to last for six weeks and will include modules on a number of relevant topics such as:
- Introduction to telecommunications
- 5G overview
- 5G use cases
- 5G radio
- 3GPP standard (3rd Generation Partnership Project)
- IoT overview
- 5G business potential for Poland
“Ericsson in Poland is very pleased to partner with UKE sharing our 5G knowledge. It confirms that we are recognized as an expert on this topic and that our competence, knowledge, and skills, which we provide to the Polish market, are recognized by the Polish regulator. I believe that together we will introduce the 5G network more effectively in Poland,” stated Martin Mellor, Head of Ericsson in Poland.
