After taking long career breaks, e.g. to look after children or sick relatives, a lot of professionals have challenges getting back into the work place. The majority of them are usually women – and companies like Capgemini or Amazon Web Services are now offering so called returnship programs to enable them to return back into mid to senior level roles.


In the past years we have seen organizations moving away from filtering candidates based on the schools they graduated at. Now, companies like GoogleIBM and Hilton are even offering well-paying jobs to candidates without any university education. Their motivation behind this change is that they can attract a much more diverse pool of candidates. Not everyone has the financial means to get a degree and for the companies the actual experience and skills are most important. Read more here.


The British Council is currently rolling out a project across schools in India that is supposed to challenge gender stereotypes. The scheme is encouraging boys and girls to play together and is using sports (especially cricketand dance) to teach gender equality.

Tomisin Ogunnubi is a great example why we have to support #GirlsinSTEM projects. The 14 year old Nigerian student learned how to code thanks to an initiative at her school and has developed an app that can help lost kids get back home.
