AI and Machine Learning at Ericsson

The complexity of today's telecommunication systems is extensive and will accelerate even further the coming years with the digitalization ongoing in society's around the globe. AI and ML are vital technologies for Ericsson to handle this complexity. In 5G, the number of functionality dimensions has increased significantly including number of data points, e.g. the number of parameters per network node is around 4500 per site. Therefore, the complexity of running a 5G network, including additional data points in IoT, makes it virtually impossible for a human brain to comprehend and find an optimized solution for.

Machine intelligence when automation is not an option

Machine intelligence can support field service technicians to solve problems more efficiently on-site. When arriving at a fault alarming site, often with multiple alarms being sent, the service technicians cannot count on having internet access, and it might not be easy for them to know where to start searching.
