Mentor: Gurdave Reshi
Minta attends Kings Maths School in Westminster and studies A-Levels in Maths, Further Maths and Physics and Computer Science and has applied to study Maths and Computer Science at Warwick university, Durham university, Bristol university, Bath university and Birmingham university and wants to pursue a career as a programmer or software engineer.
Minta explains why she applied to join the programme “I wanted to get a feel of what it would be like to work in technology, the atmosphere and what the day to day work is like and then to decide if a career in technology is for me. I thought it would be great to get a direct opinion from someone who works in the sector and has gone through similar experiences as me and to get advice from them on how to be successful in technology. ”
Minta describes the impact the programme has had “I am more confident when talking to professionals both in person and via email. I have gained a better understanding of who I am as a person and what aspects I am good at and the areas I need to improve. I am more organised as a person because we had to arrange meetings and I had to ensure that I did my preparation for our 1-2-1 sessions in good time.
Describing her mentor Gurdave, she says “Gurdave was so friendly and would see things from my perspective and gave me good advice and if I felt down he would encourage me and give me a confidence boost to keep pushing on. He is early in his career and could relate to me and my challenges and I found it easier to talk to him about things and ask him questions.”
Talking about her future in technology: “I am definitely more committed to pursuing a career in the technology sector and my mentor advised me to get a work placement at university as it would benefit me so these are in my immediate plans and I am looking at more work experience at either O2, BT, Vodafone and Ericsson.”
