Transforming Transportation with Connectivity and Automation

The transportation industry has entered an era of major transformation as vehicles are getting connected, electrified, redefined and more automated.

The business opportunity starts with the millions of cars/vehicles that are being connected, that all will demand increased data connectivity to keep the customer experience at its best. When a new vehicle today leaves the factory, it is just the first version, which will evolve during its lifecycle. It will need to be always connected to receive the software upgrades over the air, and new services for a safer and enriched experience for the user.

The vehicles are also connecting to the surrounding ecosystem; other vehicles, pedestrians, bikes, and infrastructure in order to fully utilize the business potential of the connected vehicles. By utilizing the cellular cloud and network for real time connection, the vehicle can complement the safety system in the vehicle by being able to “see around corners”.

This is just the first step towards full automation. The business opportunity continues in the domain of autonomous fleets and the demand it has on the connectivity in order to operate locally in closed areas, regionally on public roads and globally.

This year’s Financial Times Future of the Car Summit brings an unrivalled line-up of industry experts, innovators and thought leaders under one roof to discuss the hottest issues facing the global automotive sector. Meet Ericsson’s connected vehicles experts for two days of insights and networking in London.
