The future is hers! Ericsson-LG held Girls in ICT Hackathon

Ericsson-LG held Girls in ICT (GICT) 2019 Hackathon event for female science and engineering students on May 16th and 17th for two days. The GICT is an annual event organized by Ericsson-LG to celebrate International Women's Day and to promote understanding and interest in ICT industry for young female talents and encourage their career development. The theme of this year’s contest was on various IoT service ideas that support industry digitalization, especially driven by 5G.

A total of 127 teams submitted proposals, and 10 teams were selected through preliminary screening. For the selected 10 teams, a pre-training was also conducted to prepare demos to realize their ideas using Ericsson IoT Accelerator.

On the 17th, IoT service demos prepared by each team after a heated debate and serious development process throughout the two days of hacking were presented by each team.

The final three teams, C.S.I, Guardians of Agriculture, SYH won the competition. All the winners will be offered prizes, certificates, and internship opportunities during their vacations.

Hakan Cervell, CEO of Ericsson-LG, says: "Diversity inspires change and reduces inequalities. For more developed organization culture and industry future, we internally put a lot of efforts to increase the proportion of female employees, especially female leaders. We also hold GICT event every year, hoping that many young female talents will grow into leaders in the future ICT industry in Korea."

Soosan Shin, who joind Ericsson-LG as a software developer after an intership through the past GICT, says: "It was good to be able to experience company culture and actual development work in advance through an internship. When I joined the company, I was surprised that there were quite many of female seniors, and I'm looking forward to working with more female juniors in the future."
