Ericsson-LG held online Girls in ICT 2021 Hackathon event on November 4th and 5th. Ericsson-LG is continuously encouraging female talents to develop ICT competencies through this annual event for female university students in science and engineering.

As the world is rapidly changing due to the digital revolution, half of the world's population is marginalized by the digital divide. This hackathon event was held under the theme of ‘Bridge the digital divide’ to bridge this digital gap with ICT technology.

Of the proposals submitted from September, 10 teams that passed the preliminary screening advanced to the finals and conducted online hacking and competitions on November 4 and 5. Prior to the contest, pre-training was held to implement Ericsson IoT Accelerator using cellular connectivity for various ideas.

During the 24-hour online hacking, Ericsson-LG technical mentors supported the students. In addition, by using a metaverse platform, the students had a separate session with Ericsson-LG senior female seniors who shared their various experiences and advices.

The ten final teams presented novel and diverse demonstrations through cellular connectivity to bridge the digital divide, and 3Rabbits, Viswual, and Guiders teams won the final competition. All winners will be provided with prize money, certificates, and opportunities for internships.

Hakan Cervell, CEO of Ericsson-LG, said, “To create a sustainable and connected future, we should all come together and through mobile connectivity and tis technologies, we can improve our lives and shape the future. I hope this event can be an opportunity to create a world of new possibilities together with limitless imagination and potential of female students.
