In this new Tech Talk, Maria Edvardsson from Ericsson Research looks at the evolution of LTE and describes six of the technical areas that we believe in for the evolution of LTE.

This Tech Talk is about the evolution of LTE. The first release of LTE was finalized in 2008 and one year later the first network was up running. The standardization of LTE Release 12 has just started.

What is most important in the evolution of LTE is that Ericsson's macro networks continue to improve. We also believe in improvements for local area access and for some new use-cases.

In this Tech Talk, we describe six of the technical areas that we believe in for the evolution of LTE; elevation beamforming, dual connectivity, WiFi integration, device-to-device, machine type communication and lean carrier.

These improvements will result in improved capacity, improved end-user quality, and improved functionality for such large amounts of connected devices. The systems will be also be affordable and sustainable.
