Telefonica Peru and Ericsson are implementing the first rural connectivity project in Latin America to provide internet to Amazon communities with 4G/LTE technology. The project uses 4G technology as fixed wireless internet access, and aims to connect governmental entities, such as schools and healthcare centers, in the Peruvian Amazon during 2015.

The effort will bring fixed connectivity to 172 communities as a start, and will also explore the benefits of mobile 4G. Demonstrating Ericsson's commitment to Technology for Good, the connectivity is intended to increase social inclusion, foster economic growth, and contribute to a better quality of life for thousands of people.
