From 2G to 5G on Swedish train routes with FRMCS
In a European collaborative project (MORANE-2), the global mission critical communication standard for trains will be tested, upgrading from the current 2G-based system (GSM-R) to the new 5G-based Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS). For the first time in a public mobile network, Telia, together with Trafikverket (Swedish Transport Administration) and Ericsson, will be responsible for setting and testing the new communication standard. A 40 km long train route will be included in this test.
