The Slice Partition Adaptation rApp will further automate the optimization of resources for a given slice. The rApp instruments the Automatic radio resource partitioning functionality in the gNodeB and insights from the RAN to dynamically adapt the spectrum resource used to the actual traffic pattern. rApp will also provide observability to monitor the behavior of A-RRP in the gNodeB in a predefined cluster.
Service performance observability per traffic group
Observability function in the rApp is focused on service performance KPI necessary to monitor A-RRP function in cells part of a predefined cluster. It provides insights regarding:
- Integrity: observed throughput at different level including cell, traffic group in the cell, partition.
- Resource consumption: including Spectrum share utilization per partition and number of active PDU sessions/DRBs.
- Radio link state KPIs in the cell.
The functionality is fast-paced and based on observability (events) coming from the network to have a near real time view of the function behavior.
Dynamically adapt the spectrum resource need per traffic group in a cell to actual traffic pattern.
For the actuation part, the rApp aims to:
- Optimize the service performance per cell & traffic group by tuning of A-RRP.
- Add capability to adapt dynamically A-RRP boundaries to changing traffic pattern that could differ from the one originally planned.
- Can operate both in open-loop and closed loop depending on operator needs.
The main benefit is to coordinate globally A-RRP behavior in a cell for the different partitions with A-RRP activated. rApp will balance allocated spectrum resources dynamically between those partitions.
