Virtual Private Network (VPN)

The Ericsson Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a software based solution to define a Virtual Private Network from existing physical telecommunications network elements, offering all the benefits of a physical private network, but with increased functionality and flexibility at lower costs. By providing virtual private branch exchange functionality, the Ericsson Virtual Private Network (VPN) dramatically increases employee availability while ensuring the cost control that enterprises demand.

The VPN service enables an operator to offer enterprise oriented services on integration of fixed and mobile users of a company into one virtual network with one or more numbering plans and company-defined rules.
Postpaid and prepaid subscribers are both served in one VPN context.

Main purpose of VPN is to manage telephone costs for companies. VPN offers near to 100 features of which private numbering plan, call diversion, outgoing call screening, personal/business calls, unique number and hunting are only a few examples.

VPN supports integration to different type of access networks which enables VPN functionality to mobile, PBX and VoLTE users.

VPN is installed on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware using virtualization software providing a cost efficient integration in the operators domain.

The Ericsson Virtual Private Network provides the experience of having corporate mobile phones integrated with the company virtual private branch (PBX) in a single business communication environment. For smaller companies, the Ericsson Virtual Private Network can be deployed as a replacement for company PBXs.

This virtual PBX environment provides greater accessibility for both employees and the business, while providing features and charging options that give businesses greater control over costs.

The Ericsson Virtual Private Network provides a number of features. From advanced call diversion functionality for individual phones, cross-border VPN to support international, multi-country and company-to-company on-net calling to advanced data management features to enable statistical reporting and self-provisioning for company administrators and users.

Ericsson Virtual Private Network is one of the main applications in the Ericsson Next Generation IN (NGIN) Applications. All NGIN Applications are based on the Ericsson Composition Engine, the Ericsson preferred network-convergent application server, application broker and network capabilities exposure gateway.

Based on Ericsson NGIN Applications, the operator is able to grow his service revenue based on end user intimacy, allowing these end users to always communicate on their specific individual needs and conditions.

Improved customer satisfaction

Studies show that at least 40 percent of mobile calls are not answered. This can have a major impact on brand value leading to loss of business. With the virtual PBX functionality of the Ericsson Virtual Private Network, such as call diversion and hunt groups, businesses can dramatically reduce this percentage and improve customer satisfaction.

Flexible usage of the service

The Ericsson Virtual Private Network makes it possible for users to automatically divert calls between their own fixed and mobile phones, to specific colleagues, to the company receptionist or to voice mail. Similarly, calls coming in through the main company number can be allocated to hunt groups, so callers get to the right person for their inquiry, or to specific agents based on availability.
At the same time, users can utilize the advanced call back options to ensure that they respond promptly to calls after a period of unavailability or that urgent calls are flagged for immediate attention. Users can choose which number is displayed when making calls, ensuring that the caller receives a contact number which will always be answered.
