Home Location Register Front-End
As part of our User Data Consolidation (UDC) solution, Ericsson Home Location Register Front End (HLR-FE) delivers subscription management and user authentication to GSM/GPRS and WCDMA network domains. HLR-FE employs the 3GPP-defined Authentication Center Front End (AuC-FE) functionality to implement business logic for the users authentication.
Mobile Number Portability and flexible allocation of subscriptions is also provided by means of Mobile Number Portability Front End (MNP-FE) functionality.
In addition, HLR-FE plays a vital role in network deployments for IoT, providing a highly flexible, adaptable, and optimized solution that enables not only the management of IoT device subscription data but also its monetization.
HLR-FE acts as the front end interface between a Centralized User Database (CUDB) and mobile network infrastructure, making HLR-FE the component responsible for updating networks after traffic and/or provisioning activities. HLR-FE plays a key role in end-to-end congestion control by means of its real-time cooperation mechanism between the back end and the most critical of our application front ends to maximize database performance under signaling storms
Utilizing its AuC-FE component, HLR-FE defines which subscriptions are allowed to consume services in the network, via strong authentication procedure.
On network deployments that also include IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), LTE, and Generic Bootstrapping Architecture (GBA) access, the AuC-FE can provide authentication data to the Home Subscriber Server (HSS), which can be used to authenticate the users on these mechanisms/frameworks. This is an advantage to those service providers who have already deployed our HLR-FE solution and wish to reuse its authentication mechanism when evolving their networks.
