  • Ericsson in Latin America & Caribbean had 7,800 employees in 1999, compared to 11,500 today
  • Outside-in competence: today we have 500 people from acquired companies and 3,500 from managed services deals

27% to 66% is the change of Services and Software as part of our global business mix between 1999 and 2014. In RLAM it is 55% in 2005 to 65% in 2014. We used to have 7,800 employees in 1999 and today we have 11,500 in the region.

Transformation in our investments in production and innovation in the region

Today in the same city we have a hardware factory for the last 60 years, we have also a group of 100 software architects that are developing today's and future software for smart cities, among other. Wireline systems were the primary Development area in our R&D Center in the last 40 years, today the same center is now called Innovation Center mostly dedicated for intelligent transport systems, network virtualization and 5G with 450 experts in open innovation among Ericsson, partners and universities.

Story of transformation 1: foster urban mobility with Volvo bus in the customization of Volvo's ITS4Mobility intelligent transport system for real-time traffic management and passenger information system. Ericsson is responsible for development, implementation, support and maintenance.

Story of transformation 2: São José dos Campos decreases crime rate (same city we have a plant and a software development unit for smart cities). Ericsson is the single system integrator of the Integrated Operations Center with a connected video solution with 500 cameras and 100 miles of fiber optic cable. Public safety incidents have been reduced and homicide rate has declined from 10.21 to 8.29 per 100,000 inhabitants.

Story of transformation 3: financial inclusion in Peru by a tailored Mobile Money project, the country's largest private initiative for financial inclusion headed by Asbanc, Peru's National Bank Association, estimates 2.1 million Peruvians to benefit and own a mobile wallet by 2019. Ericsson m-commerce solution includes design, systems integration, learning services, implementation, managed services and support.

Ericsson today in Latin America & Caribbean

Ericsson has been present in Latin America since 1896, when the company established an agreement in Colombia and delivered equipment for the first time in the region. In the early 1900s, Ericsson increased its presence in Latin America by signing commercial deals in Brazil (1924), Chile (1946) and Mexico (1904). Today, Ericsson is present in 56 countries within South America, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean, which combined count the region as one of the few with complete Ericsson installations, including a Production Unit, R&D Center and Training Center. Ericsson is the market leading telecom supplier, with over 40% market share in mobile networks in Latin America and more than 100 telecom service contracts in the region.
