Ericsson’s RAN Compute portfolio is a new leap in technology, offering the best performance, capacity, and flexibility while increasing energy efficiency, and it’s all powered by Ericsson Silicon.

RAN Compute evolution

Network traffic continues to grow exponentially with more and more 5G and fixed wireless access (FWA) subscriptions, and the demands on uplink continue to increase. To ensure that the scaling of uplink keeps pace with this demand, the next wave of 5G deployments will focus on expanding mid-band TDD (time division duplex) and improving performance by utilizing Massive MIMO FDD (frequency division duplex) or radios with 8 receivers.  

This will make sure that mobile broadband (MBB) performance is maintained while preparing the network for 5G Advanced applications such as extended reality (XR) that require greater uplink capacities.

Communications service providers (CSPs) need to densify their networks in both distributed and centralized deployments while minimizing their site footprints and energy consumption. Added to this, automation and the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) will be key to maximizing operational and energy efficiency as CSPs are looking to reduce their total cost of ownership (TCO).

As part of this launch, we are enabling CSPs to utilize the full value of 5G, to build for 5G Advanced and open networks, as well as helping them towards their Net Zero goals.

Router 6671 – 25GE optimized and energy efficient cell site router

To support the new RAN Compute solution, we continuously evolve our Router 6000 portfolio. To support the centralized deployments with both high capacity switching and interfaces the Router 6678 is introduced. It doubles the capacity to 4.8 Tbps while significantly reducing the size and energy. For the distributed deployments, we add Router 6671 to our already comprehensive set of Cell Site Routers. Router 6678 is 100GE optimized for aggregation sites and​ central hub sites​. Built for high reliability and low energy consumption. Router 6671 is a 10 and 25 GE optimized cell site router​ that is 25% more energy-efficient than previous generation.  Both routers are built for AI/ML
