    • Ericsson helps expand T-Mobile USA’s HSPA+ 42 network, doubling theoretical peak download speeds up to 42Mbps
    • Adds a new dimension to the mobile broadband experience with faster video streaming, file downloads and web browsing
    • Helps achieve T-Mobile’s goal of expanding HSPA+ 42 Mbps to more than 170 million people

Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) today announced the company has partnered with T-Mobile USA, Inc. to expand portions of the company’s 4G (HSPA+) mobile broadband network, making theoretical peak speeds up to 42 Mbps available to more than 170 million people across the United States. Supporting T-Mobile’s aggressive rollout plan of doubling its network speeds by mid-2011, the expansion allows T-Mobile customers to experience faster video streaming, file downloads and web browsing.

“As we build toward a networked society in which any device that benefits from a connection will have one, faster mobile broadband speeds and more data capacity are essential,” said Angel Ruiz, head of Ericsson North America. “With this expansion to HSPA+ 42 Mbps, Ericsson and T-Mobile USA add to the companies’ long history of partnership.”

By building upon current HSPA networks, HSPA+ technology can achieve enhanced performance speeds and is capable of meeting operator demands for increased capacity and end-user demands for higher data rates. It also offers operators a viable network expansion alternative as consumer demand for mobile broadband continues to grow. Ericsson estimates mobile broadband subscriptions will number nearly 5 billion by 2016.

“In cooperation with Ericsson, we’re now able to provide access to T-Mobile’s HSPA+ 42 Mbps network to even more customers,” said Neville Ray, chief technology officer, T-Mobile USA. “Ericsson is a crucial partner in the expansion of our HSPA+ network, which allows us to offer customers increased 4G speeds, network capacity and reliability.”
